Originally a thatched crofter's cottage, Gran's Cottage has changed slightly over the centuries, although it still retains all the romance and rustic charm when it was first built 300 years ago. In those bygone times, the cottage was home to the local wheelwright and the shepherds of Glen Rosa. Gloriously situated at the foot of Goatfell , this "little treasure" enjoys an exceptional location, certainly one of the best on the Island. We've been careful in restoring the cottage, retaining all the charm of the past, whilst successfully renovating it to a five star standard ( Scottish Tourist Board). What you'll find inside is a flagstone floored ground level, where there is a charming sitting room with a wood burning stove (big basket of logs supplied), it is furnished with antiques and original artwork. Also conveniences such as; free wi-fi, sky television, stereo with I pod/phone dock and DVD player. The stylish bathroom has a whirlpool bath and over the bath shower. Clean, soft and fluffy towels are provided. The kitchen/diner is traditional but is equipped with modern conveniences such as hob/oven, dishwasher, fridge/freeze, washer/dryer, microwave and lots of kitchen utensils.
The charm continues upstairs, where you will find two of the quaintest little bedrooms you will ever see, clad floor to ceiling in old pine, guests have compared it too sleeping on an old ship. They are traditionally small and have coombed ceilings, which restricts space, but makes for a truly romantic and cosy experience. There is a double bed in both bedrooms and we provide the quality bed linen for you! Both bedrooms have dormer windows, which have lovely views of the garden and beyond to the policies of Brodick Castle.
The lovely garden is large, private and secluded, with mature trees and stunning views over Glen Rosa, Goatfell and the policies of Brodick Castle. The cottage is centrally heated and there is constant hot water. The wood burning stove will keep you extra toasty in the winter. The Cottage has private, off-road parking for two cars. Gran’s Cottage is in a rural and pastoral location, right next to Arran's mountains, but we are also only two and half miles from Brodick pier and two miles from Brodick Village. The nearest pub and restaurant is just over a mile away, a 25 minute walk. Gran's Cottage sleeps a maximum of four. Dogs are most welcome, but please let us know in advance.
